Peeling is considered to be a special cosmetic procedure necessary for partial or full removal of the top stratum corneum of skin on various parts of a body. Thanks to this procedure, it is possible to achieve the necessary rejuvenating effect, as well as get rid of all sorts of aesthetic imperfections of the skin. Dead skin particles cause clogging of the pores, which prevents the skin from being saturated with oxygen.
Aesthetic Medicine Clinic Myroslava Novosilska offers several types of peels:
- Mechanical – involves the use of various types of scrubs, as well as cosmetics, which include abrasive particles.
- Chemical – involves the use of different types of acids and plant enzymes. Chemical peelings can be: superficial, medium depth and deep. Each type is directly related to a certain condition of human skin.
- Hardware – saturation of cells with the necessary therapeutic and stimulating substances through the use of appropriate devices, and equipment. Depending on this, the saturation process can be performed with the use of laser, vacuum, nitrogen, ultrasonic or radio waves.
The choice of a particular type of peeling for a particular area of skin depends on two main criteria – the patient’s age and general condition of the skin.
Name | Indications | Level of effect | Result | Rehabilitation period | Season recommendation |
SKIN RECOVERY | – acne – postacne | Superficial | Cleansing the skin of comedones, normalizing sebaceous glands activity, reducing signs of inflammation, reducing manifestations of rashes, partial lightening of postacne spots | No skin peeling observed | Throughout the year, including summer |
Retinoic acid peel (aka «yellow peel» ) | – photo ageing – fine lines – pigmentation – postacne | Superficial to medium depth | Cleanses the skin, has an anti-inflammatory effect, has a lifting effect, improves the structure and relief of the skin, brightens hyperpigmentation and blemishes | Skin peeling can be observed on the 2-3 day after the procedure, which is and gradually disappering within 7 days | Autumn-winter season |
TCA peel (with the use of trichloroacetic acid) | – enlarged pores – acne and postacne blemishes (scars etc.) – pigment spots – hyperkeratosis (thickening of the outer layer of the skin) – photo ageing – skin turgor loss – fine lines – striae (stretch marks) on the body | Superficial to medium depth depending on concentration | Superficial: smoothing of skin tone, normalization of sebaceous glands activity Medium depth: reducing the depth of scars, lifting effect, lightening of pigmented spots | 7-10 days. Skin peeling is observed approximately on the 3rd day. | Autumn-winter season |
Almond peel | – oily seborrhea – acne and comedones – pigment spots – traces of postacne – scars – signs of aging – decreased skin elasticity, wrinkles | Superficial | Delicate pore cleansing, wrinkle smoothing, bactericidal action, drying of existing rashes. Activates the process of collagen and elastin production, improves blood microcirculation | No skin peeling and rehabilitation period | Throughout the year, including summer |
Carbonic peel | – fine lines and age wrinkles – oily skin – severe dehydration of the upper layers of the epidermis – traces of postacne – scars after acne – pigment spots and freckles | Superficial | Cleansing the skin, reducing sebum. Delicate resuscitation of dead epidermal cells, as a result, the skin becomes softer, the tone evens out. Stimulation of elastin and collagen production, which in turn reduces wrinkles, makes the skin denser and more elastic, and complexion brighter and smoother. | No skin peeling and rehabilitation period | Throughout the year, including summer |
PRX-T33 | – acne – postacne blemishes – fine lines – sagging skin – atrophic scars – pigmentation | Medium depth | Skin tone evens out, elasticity increases, pigment spots and acne scars are significantly lightened, sebaceous glands activity normalizes | No skin peeling and rehabilitation period | Throughout the year, including summer |
Ferrule peel | – age changes – postacne – pigment spots – uneven skin color | Superficial | The main function of ferrule peeling is exfoliation of dead cells, smoothing of complexion, removal of superficial pigment spots, strengthening of blood vessels, lifting effect due to increased production of elastin and collagen | Minimal skin peeling in some cases can be observed on the 2nd day, but it ceases quickly with the use of moisturizing cream as homecare | Throughout the year, including summer |
Removal of dirt and scales is carried out with the use of abrasive particles, which are evenly distributed over the entire surface of the skin with a certain consistency. Frequently used abrasives in cosmetics are:
- chopped apricot kernels;
- crushed nutshell;
- sea salt;
- coral crumb;
- particles of dried algae and clay.
Such cosmetics are called scrubs or peels. They are needed not only to cleanse the skin, but also to effectively stimulate cell regeneration. The frequency of their usage varies from 1 to 3 times a week.
Many scrubs have a superficial effect. However, products based on coral crumbs have a superficial to medium-depth mechanism of action and should be used in a beauty salon.
In the process of applying chemical peels, it is customary to use various chemicals called acids. As a result, cells are burned, and thus gradually die exposing other, deeper cell layers – they are quite smooth and fresh.
According to its depth of impact, such peels can be of three types.
Glycolic acid is used as the main component, other alpha-hydroxy acids (lactic, citric, grape) can also be used. When applied to the skin surface, they are able to dissolve the cells of the stratum corneum of the epidermis.
Indication:
- chrono- and photoaging of the skin;
- follicular hyperkeratosis;
- post acne;
- hyperpigmentation;
- acne;
- enlarged pores.
To achieve a lasting result it is recommended to take a course: from 6 to 10 sessions at intervals of 1 time per week.
Medium-depth peels actively affect the entire depth of the epidermis, including the papillary layer. For this procedure most often used: solution of trichloroacetic acid (TCA, 25-30%), salicylic acid (20%), retinoids, azelaic acid, and phenol.
Indication:
- stretch marks;
- photoaging of the skin;
- hyperkeratosis;
- scars, uneven skin surface;
- pigment spots;
- post acne;
- reduction of the former elasticity of the skin.
The used means provide anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects, as well as normalize the sebaceous glands activity.
Deep peels are considered to be a complex procedure and are performed exclusively in a beauty salon. Phenol or 35-50% TCA is taken as a basis. During this procedure, the papillary layer of the dermis is damaged.
Indication:
- pigmentation;
- deep wrinkles, scars;
- stretch marks;
This procedure is followed with a long rehabilitation process: peeling of the skin is observed within 10-14 days.
Hardware peels are performed with the use of a number of hardware techniques that allow rejuvenating and cleansing the skin. The main advantage of using a laser or ultrasound method is high efficiency along with the painlessness of the procedure. Therefore, this procedure does not require the use of anesthesia (in some cases, a special cream is used that can “freeze” a certain area of skin).
In addition, the hardware peels eliminate the possibility of skin injury. Quite often this type of peeling is combined with various cosmetic procedures.
Note the main list of contraindications, relevant for all types of peeling:
- pregnancy, breastfeeding;
- high body temperature, colds;
- diabetes;
- oncological diseases;
- blood and cardiovascular system diseases;
- chronic and exacerbated skin diseases;
- infectious diseases, all kinds of damage to the skin surface;
- herpes (during an exacerbation).
Carbon peeling is a unique modern procedure aimed at active cleansing and lifting the skin. This procedure is performed with the use of a special gel created on the basis of carbon, as well as a laser.
Carbon peeling is relevant for the following areas:
- face;
- décolleté area;
- hands;
- back;
In the West, this procedure is called “Hollywood peel” because of its popularity in many cosmetic clinics in Los Angeles.
Before the procedure, a layer of carbon gel is applied on the target skin surface, which dries slightly. Next, a laser device is used, which acts exclusively on the carbon layer: carbon particles are broken down into smaller parts. As a result, dead epidermal cells exfoliate and pores are cleansed. Due to the additional thermal effect, natural processes of cell regeneration are stimulated.
Carbonic peeling is used for:
- peeling skin;
- couperose;
- oily skin with signs of acne, post acne;
- hyperpigmentation;
- comedones;
- normal, combination skin with fine age wrinkles;
- acne;
- the first wrinkles – fine lines/ or age wrinkles.
Contraindications to this procedure:
- dry and very thin skin;
- pregnancy, breastfeeding;
- oncological diseases;
- predisposition to keloid scars;
- chronic skin diseases;
- acne in the active stage.
Due to the carbon absorption function, a deep cleansing of the pores occurs, after which the laser destroys the particles of the dried carbon mask together with the absorbed accumulations.
