Treatment Monitoring Between In-Person Appointments

Skin lesion assessment during an online consultation is performed in two formats:1) Using a standard photograph (without a dermatoscope) – the physician performs only a preliminary visual assessment. This format is not diagnostic and, in all cases, requires a subsequent in-person examination with dermatoscopy to establish a final conclusion. 2) Using a dermatoscopic image provided by the Patient (obtained with a dermatoscope during a previous in-person examination by another specialist or medical institution) – the physician may provide a qualified expert opinion (second opinion) regarding the existing dermatoscopic image. However, even in this case, the final diagnosis, follow-up examination, and decisions regarding further management remain the responsibility of the physician who is directly monitoring the Patient.In both cases, if signs suggestive of a potentially malignant skin lesion are identified, the physician will promptly inform the Patient of the need for an urgent in-person examination.

Dermatology is the branch of medicine that offers the greatest opportunities for establishing a diagnosis remotely. The skin is an external organ that is ideally suited for visual assessment, making an online consultation with a dermatologist a comprehensive medical appointment.

When Is an Online Dermatologist Consultation Needed?
When Should You Schedule an Online Dermatologist Consultation?
When you are unable to visit the clinic and need a physician to quickly assess the condition of your skin or another concern. In such cases, an online dermatologist consultation becomes a fast and convenient way to receive professional medical assistance.

Indications:
You are abroad or in another city and do not have the opportunity to visit the clinic for an in-person appointment
Need adjustment of current treatment or a follow-up consultation after a previously established diagnosis
You want to receive an independent specialist opinion regarding an existing diagnosis
A new skin lesion has appeared, or a mole has changed in color, shape, or started growing
You are experiencing rashes, redness, itching, flaking, or any other skin changes that require a doctor's consultation
Your child has developed a hemangioma (vascular lesion), and you would like to receive a doctor's consultation to assess its condition

During an online consultation, the doctor performs a preliminary assessment of the vascular lesion based on the provided materials, determines the need for an in-person examination, additional tests, or treatment. The final diagnosis and treatment method may require a personal examination of the patient. If signs are identified that may indicate a location or growth pattern of the lesion requiring urgent evaluation (in particular, if it is located near the eyes, airways, or is rapidly increasing in size), the doctor informs about the need for an urgent in-person examination by a pediatric specialist.

Detailed terms of informed consent
Definition of an online consultation
An online consultation is a remote medical consultation conducted exclusively based on information, documents, photographs, and other materials provided by the Patient. Such consultation does not replace an in-person medical examination and has limitations related to the absence of a physical examination, instrumental diagnostic methods, and the ability to assess only the provided materials.
Doctor’s obligation to refer in case of suspicious signs
If, based on the provided materials, the doctor identifies signs that may indicate a skin lesion with a suspicion of malignancy or other conditions requiring urgent diagnostics, the doctor is obliged to immediately inform the Patient about the need for an in-person examination and/or dermatoscopy, biopsy, or other instrumental examinations within the shortest possible timeframe.
Patient’s consent to the limitations of the format
The Patient acknowledges and agrees that, following an online consultation, the doctor may recommend an in-person examination or referral to another specialist, and that establishing a final diagnosis or prescribing treatment may not be possible without a personal medical examination.
Consent of the legal representative for children
If the Patient is a minor, the online consultation is conducted exclusively with the participation and written consent of one of the parents or another legal representative of the child, who is responsible for the accuracy of the provided information and materials.
Warning regarding emergency conditions

    Frequently Asked Questions
    Is the consultation confidential?
    Yes, of course. All information you provide as a patient remains confidential and is used exclusively for the purpose of providing medical care.
    Can a dermatologist make a diagnosis based on a photo?
    If you provide a high-quality photo, it allows the doctor to assess the condition and nature of the issue you are seeking help with. We recommend sending an overall photo of the affected area as well as a close-up image.
    How long does the consultation last?
    An online dermatologist consultation lasts from 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case.
    Can I schedule another consultation?
    Of course, follow-up consultations allow us to evaluate treatment results and make adjustments if necessary.
    Can I reschedule the planned consultation?
    Yes, if you notify us 24–48 hours before the consultation. If the notification is made less than 24 hours before the appointment, rescheduling is possible only in the presence of a documented valid reason (illness, force majeure); in other cases, the payment is non-refundable.

    Online Dermatologist Consultation: Remote Assistance for Skin Problems

    In a remote format, a specialist evaluates the condition of the skin based on photos, videos, and a detailed description of the patient’s symptoms. During the consultation, the following may be performed:

    • analysis of rashes, redness, and inflammation;
    • assessment of the condition of facial and body skin;
    • preliminary diagnosis of dermatological conditions.

    An online dermatologist will assess the need for an in-person visit, provide recommendations for basic skincare, select topical products, and, if necessary, prescribe medication therapy.

    When You Should Consult an Online Dermatologist

    If it is not possible to attend an in-person appointment, it is worth scheduling a remote consultation. This is relevant in the following cases:

    • rash, itching, irritation;
    • skin redness or other sudden changes in skin condition;
    • acne of varying severity;
    • dryness and flaking;
    • suspected allergic reaction;
    • changes in moles or pigmentation;
    • worsening of skin condition due to stress.

    An online dermatologist consultation is also convenient for monitoring chronic skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis, and rosacea. It is also a suitable option when selecting or adjusting skincare products, especially for sensitive, reactive skin or a history of acne.

    How an Online Dermatologist Consultation Works

    The process includes collecting information, analyzing visual data, and developing recommendations. The main stages include:

    • clarifying the duration and nature of symptoms;
    • analysis of photos and/or videos of affected areas;
    • assessment of possible causes of skin changes;
    • preliminary diagnosis;
    • selection of skincare and treatment recommendations.

    An online dermatologist consultation provides an opportunity to receive answers to all your questions, as well as clear and understandable instructions.

    What Recommendations Can Be Received After the Consultation

    The doctor takes into account individual characteristics and possible causes of the condition in order to create a specific action plan:

    • topical treatment regimen;
    • recommendations for cleansing and skincare;
    • restrictions regarding cosmetics and procedures;
    • lifestyle recommendations;
    • follow-up monitoring plan.

    The doctor will also explain the signs that require a repeat consultation and provide information on preventing flare-ups.

    Why You Should Avoid Self-Treatment

    Incorrect selection of medications and inappropriate actions often lead to increased inflammation and worsening of the skin condition. There is a risk of allergic reactions or progression of the condition into a chronic form.

    A remote dermatologist consultation in Lviv is an investment in your health that helps you avoid losing valuable time and, most importantly, address the root cause of the problem rather than simply masking its symptoms.

    When an Online Consultation Is Not Enough

    An in-person examination may be required in the following cases:

    • suspected malignant skin lesions;
    • severe inflammatory processes;
    • the need for dermoscopy;
    • lack of improvement despite treatment;
    • intense allergic reactions;
    • deep infectious lesions;
    • the need for injectable or hardware-based procedures.

    The doctor will assess the situation and, if necessary, refer the patient for an in-person appointment for more accurate diagnostics and extended examination.
